Educating the future, preserving life

What began as a community effort to provide education for children in Kayumweyumwe community flourished into a fully-fledged Community School and Rural Health Centre. While Kayumweyumwe Community School was established in 2015, the Health Centre was established in 2019. The construction and operationalization of the Kayumweyumwe Community School and Health Centre followed the request by the community to alleviate the suffering of the community members whose children learnt in a mud and pole classroom and walked over 20 kilometers to access health services. These efforts have resulted into an enrolment of over 500 pupils and a record of over 9,000 patients provided with health services.

One of the Kayumweyumwe residents Diana a mother of four shares her ordeal that came as a result of not being able to access health services when she needed them most. Due to lack of the facility, Diana gave birth to her first-born child at home. While an infant, her baby suffered from cerebral malaria which left a mark on his life. More details are in this Video.
