CHAMULIMBA HEALTH POST

The overall aim of this project was to enable a catchment population of 3,482 people have access to improved, quality health care services as close as possible to their families.

Chamulimba community had been seeking for support to put up a health post in the area for over 10 years. This is due to the fact that there is no health facility nearby, and outreach health services to the area were conducted once every 3 months. The nearest health facility was Chifundo Clinic located 20km away. As a result, the community was grappling with numerous health challenges among them unsafe deliveries by expecting mothers. Therefore, 6 years ago, the community embarked on a self-help initiative in which they moulded clay bricks and started building a structure that was to be used as a health post, using locally generated materials. However, due to limited resources, to date the structure has not been completed and has started cracking and generally dilapidating. Thus, the community through Lions District 413, Zambia and Lions Aid Zambia (LIAZ) appealed for support to put up a Health Post at Chamulimba.

Lions Aid Zambia (LIAZ) in partnership with Lions District 413, Zambia, conducted an assessment visit to Chamulimba to ascertain the need for a health post.

A visit to the proposed health post site was undertaken in the company of the local leadership of Chamulimba who included Headman Muchochoma (Health Post Project Chairperson), Mrs. Matildah Namayola (Treasurer), Wisdom Musuka (Ward Development Committee Member) and Ms. Justina Mwalumina a committee member. The Area Councillor Mr. Mate was also informed about the visit.

The construction of this facility is now complete though yet to be commissioned.

NDAPULA

Ndapula community is located in the rural part of Chongwe District in Lusaka Province. The area is comprised of 10 villages with 408 households and a combined population of 2,177. Currently the nearest health post is located about 12 kilometres away, which has posed a huge challenge for people in the area to access health services.

With this background, Lions Aid Norway (LAN) in partnership with Lions District 413(Zambia) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) through the Chongwe District Medical Office (DMO)embarked on a project to construct a health post in the area. The project was made possible with financial support from Varres Jul and Jevnaker Commune of Norway.
